The enterprising Mr. Abdo Thabet started the Thabet group, a business of bunkering ships in Aden, in 1925. This company rapidly developed into a conglomerate with major activities in stevedoring, and clearing and forwarding services. Responsibility of growing the business was taken over from their father in 1956 by the next generation Thabet brothers, who established their business base in Hodeidah in 1969. The Thabet group's philosophy that a country or company draws its strength and quality from the caliber of its people is reflected in practical terms by the care taken of employees at all levels. Great emphasis is also placed on the training of Yemeni nationals to cater to the group's present requirements and future growth. In its constant endeavor to contribute to the society, the Thabet group has established schools and a multi-specialty modern hospital.
The Thabet group has diversified into marketing of industrial goods, automobiles, lubricants, frozen & chilled foods, manufacturing of dairy products, juices, vegetable oil & ghee, packing cartons, general insurance, shipping & stevedoring, printing, dairy farm, healthcare and investments.
As part of their overseas operations, the Thabets have a liaison office in UK and have established a trading house in Dubai - Yatha Trading JLT. In line with the diversification initiatives, the group is now setting up a flour mill and a cement plant in Yemen.
